Day 2: Lubbock and Bovina

July 13, 2008

Today began early for the students as we checked out of the hotel at 7:00 a.m and headed to First United Methodist Church Lubbock to lead in worship during their three morning services.  The sanctuary was incredibly beautiful and had stunning acoustics.  Our ensembles did a tremendous job in leading worship.

After lunch we loaded back on the bus and hit the road for Clovis, New Mexico where we are staying for the night.  Our evening program as at First Baptist Church Bovina, where Brian Mullins is the pastor.  Our choir had more people than the congregation, but it was a very special time of worship.  We presented our full concert for the first time and the students did an excellent job.

Tomorrow morning we will load the bus one more time and make the long drive to Denver, Colorado.  Check back tomorrow for more updates and pictures from the trip

Day 1: Keller to Lubbock, Texas

July 12, 2008

The Rocky Mountain Chapel Tour began this morning as 45 students and 9 adult sponsors met at FBC Keller at 8:00 to load the bus, receive final instructions, and have a short time of devotion.  After working hard to load all of the luggage into one bus (thank you parents!), we were on a way.

We made great time and after a stop for lunch in Abilene, we arrived at our hotel in Lubbock on hour early!  The students and sponsors had a few hours of downtime before heading to Steve and Camille Pitts’ home for dinner.

We had a wonderful time of fellowship with the Pitts family and members of the FUMC Music Leadership.  The students had a lot of fun playing games, cards, and just having a good time.  After several hours we headed back to the hotel for an early bedtime.

Tomorrow will be a full day as we get up early and sing in 3 services at FUMC Lubbock and then travel to Bovina, Texas for a concert.  Please continue to pray for our safety and for the message of our music to point others to the glory of God.

Tour Info for Parents

July 11, 2008

As we prepare to leave tomorrow for our Rocky Mountain Chapel Tour, I want to provide parents with all of the necessary information regarding the tour.  My prayer is that this year’s tour will help all of us to deepen our relationship with the Father, show us new ways in which we can serve, and build relationships that will last a lifetime.

One of the most important things you can do while your student is away on tour is to pray for him or her daily.  Pray that they will be able to focus on what is important and to not be distracted by the things of this world.  Pray for our safety as we travel and for the churches and mission venues where we will share our music.

Our devotional times this year have been taken from John Piper’s book Don’t Waste Your Life.  During these devotional times, your student will hear the radical call to reject the world’s view of success and to pour his or her life out in service for what really matters…God’s glory.  You can follow along with our devotions this week by clicking the link below.

If you have any questions while we are on tour, please do not hesitate to contact me at (817) 287-1005.  You can download the detailed tour itinerary below.

We will post pictures and updates daily during the tour, so please check back here regularly.  You can also receive daily updates via email by subscribing in the upper right of this site.

May God be glorified as we seek to serve Him through music!

Why do we go on tour?

  1. To worship God through music;
  2. To grow in our relationship with God and each other;
  3. To encourage the churches and student music programs of the churches in which we sing;
  4. To share the message of Christ with non-believers through our program and our actions

Where are we going and what are going to do?

This year’s tour is a joint mission/choir tour. We will give concerts in Lubbock and Bovina, Texas and in several places in the Colorado Springs/Denver area. We will have 2 days of mission work while we are in Denver.

Will it be fun?

Of course it will! You will have the opportunity to worship our great God with your fellow student musicians. You will get to show God’s love through mission service. And you will get to spend a day rafting down the Colorado River!

When are we going?

We will leave from FBC Keller on Saturday, July 12 in the morning and will return on Friday, July 18 in the afternoon.

What are the requirements to go?

  3. You must participate in the home concert, which will be on Sunday, July 20th.
  4. You do not have to be a member of FBC Keller.

How much is it going to cost?

The total cost of tour is $250, which includes transportation, lodging, food, all tour outfits, and other expenses. The only money a student will need is extra spending money.

Merry Christmas!

December 16, 2007

Our students have done a fantastic job this entire week as we led in our Christmas 180 service and in our morning worship services this morning.  Thank you for coming early this morning and having a great attitude as you led in worship.

We are done with rehearsals for the rest of 2007!  Our first regular Sunday rehearsal will be on Sunday, January 13, 2008.

All students who are going to the Baylor Festival in February are required to attend our Chapel Choir retreat on Saturday, January 12th.  I will provide you with more information in the next couple of weeks.

I hope that all of you have a wonderful Christmas holiday.  Please be careful as you enjoy your time away from classes.

Merry Christmas!
David
